My kitchen is big, but is not user friendly in design. I don't have a problem with someone wanting to talk to me while I'm cooking, just stay down at the end where you're out of my way. I can still hear you, I promise. Otoh, if you want to actually help, I'm good with that, and you can get in my way as long as it doesn't annoy you when I get in yours. Because I guarantee, that will happen in my kitchen.
Say what you wanna say and let the words fall out...honestly
I wanna see you be brave
Pretty pretty please, don't you ever ever feel
Like you're less than, less than perfect

My BF has learned that when I am cooking it is best to be scarce. We don't have a lot of space and he has this uncanny ability to be standing exactly where I need to go, which means we start a frustrated tango that usually ends we me stamping my foot and snarling at him to get out. lol.
Now he just stands on the other side of the counter and chats with me, out of the way. lol

Stay out of my kitchen. I need that sign made up. I do not enjoy cooking with others. If you want to help, go pour drinks in the living room so that everyone else stays out too.
I am quite social otherwise and everybody always ends up in the kitchen, but I hate it. Now I have everything done ahead of time so that the only cooking done when others arrive is carrying dishes to the table. They think I am organized and nice. I know that I have prevented them seeing crabby Pentup.

At our house, I am the helper - SO is the Chef. He loves to cook and is good at it. I do it out of necessity, because I like to eat. I'm very willing to chop, dice, stir, and clean up.
Now baking is different. I love to bake and SO loves to eat sweets, so when I'm baking he exits the kitchen until I ask him to sample something.

I can't stand cooking in my kitchen with someone else UNLESS they know WTF they are doing and don't need me to teach, supervise, or do it the hell over. I have no problem teaching my kids how to cook. I do NOT want to "teach" another adult what to do.

Me personally, I prefer to cook alone or with DD (older one) helping me or close by to help with the spices when we tryout something new. Otherwise give me my space.

I don't mind people helping out when I am cooking, but if other people are in charge, apparently my instruction and menu opinions are not appreciated and I must exit the kitchen immediately before I start twitching.
