I have gall bladder surgery scheduled for the 15th. Still have to see the vascular surgeon next week to see what they want to do about the giant vein that makes my leg swell up to ridiculous proportions. Hopefully if it's another surgery deal I can cram it in before Dec 1st when my insurance renews and my deductible comes around again.

They're telling me 1 week out of work for the gallbladder and I only have 4 PTO days left :( Who knows how much for the leg thing.

November is going to suck!!

...but then it will be over... for a while... until I have to get my hip replacement...

dayum

It's NOT whining when it's serious cr*p...I think you deserve a little unloading! Is the one week of work technically 5 days? So "only" one unpaid day? That's not too dreadful; I'd be running the numbers... like if you can get it done before the deductible, that's money saved, equivalent to some number or work days, right?

Thank goodness you have insurance, at least; I hope you're able to get it the various procedures worked in and do well with it all!

Can you talk to your supervisor or HR about going into the negative on your PTO? Then once you're bck to work, the next bit of PTO you accrue would be theirs until you are back in positive numbers.
My supervisor has let me do this on occasion for emergencies (which I think surgery should fall under).

I am in contact with my supervisor, he's already mentioned "working something out to minimize my PTO time"... so maybe I will get lucky.

I'm thinking of offering half days of work from home time, and half days of vacation time. That keeps me available for work stuff (better for employer) and keeps my PTO time to a minimum.

Maybe I can get by with that, but I'm not sure how open to that they will be. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Can you schedule it around Thanksgiving? That way you may only have to use a day or two of PTO.

I had my wisdom teeth removed as a Sohpmore in HS, over Thanksgiving break, because my Mom didn't want to ruin my perfect attendance. Great Idea mom. I still missed 2 days of schools, surgery was far more than they bargained for, and I missed out on Turkey and trimmings.
