They say we should ask our friends and family to buy over priced crap from unheard of companies so that our kids school can get about 5% of the actual profit.

So... You, My SI peers, are my main source of Friends and Family.

Who's ready to order???

Step right up for over priced snacks and ugly gift wrap.

ETA: PS: I am kidding of course!

We had an Entertainment book show up today. The more they sell, the more times they get entered to win cheap crap

Just let me write a check every year

Ours is magazines. Sigh. I don't even know anyone that buys them. Also, there is 2 or 3 elementary school kids in every other house on this block. I get hit up by all of them.
Give me something useful. Like Garbage bags. I actually buy the garbage bags. And the poinsettias at Christmas. But no magazines.
I'm with Wh5.. just let me write the check.

And they "target" elementary kids with that schpeel . Infuriating.

I do buy one football and one baseball card (discounts to local fast food places) each year, cause I always get my money back on .99 cent route 44's from sonic and 1/2 price dipped cones from dq .

Also, any club or school that sells goods made by the students I'll try to buy for fundraisers.

That's one thing I loved about the few years my kids were in private school.
The school actually DID give a list of things we could purchase for our child's classroom.
There were no fundraisers.

Oh geez, I hate those things. Magazines, candles, gift wrap, cookie dough, greeting cards, pizzas, popcorn, candy bars and probably more I can't remember. Why don't they sell something like beer or wine? I mean really, I would have overpaid for some of that if their timing was right.

Between DSS's school and my swim team, I get hit hard. I feel obligated to buy and help support both, but most of the stuff I don't need or use.

Cookie dough, meat, magazines, Mabel's Labels, and pizzas are big here.

He has a fundraiser for the PTA and one for Band.

But for Band you can "just write a check" So I do.

I rarely ever ask anyone to actually buy anything. They only make about $.40 on the $1.00 if that much. It's a waste of my time and energy.

Gaby - I had the opposite experience. When my kids were in private school, the fundraising was NON-STOP.

I have no fundraisers this year, for the first time in 14 years.

YAY!!!

We used to have people selling Girl Scout cookies for their kids where I work. You can imagine what it was like when the orders came in.

There are a couple people who sell Avon but it's not "Hey, you wanna buy something?" it's more like if you know they sell it, you go up and ask for a book.

I think the cookie selling stopped because my employer has essentially instituted a no solicitation rule. Can't offer goods or services for sale - at least not obviously.

Can I interest you in an Entertainment book for the Detroit Metro area?

DS is in FFA. We are selling cookie dough and the worst meat products you can find. Anyone want a $28 ham? How about a lb. of bacon for $18?

I'd take ugly wrapping paper over this stuff.

Is there something wrong with me that I love the gift wrap paper?

I used to work with a woman who's son had an annual FFA fundraiser where they sold meat, bacon and sausage. That was some of the best bacon and sausage I ever had. I so wish I could find somebody who sells this stuff now. And as far as girl scout cookies, I practically have to stalk a girl scout to get some cookies. I don't know anybody who has a girl in scouts to order them from.

ETA...whatdoto...I just saw your post. When I used to order the bacon and sausage it was amazing. Please don't tell me it's gone downhill since then.

meat

LMAO.. Your school sells meat? How does that work? I'd feel weird buying ribs or chicken from a 6 year old.
Mabels Labels though.. love those. I'd actually buy those, and I am almost out!

The first school my kids went to had an awesome fundraiser. It did have the expensive, cheesy stuff but their gift wrap was really nice and it was heavy paper. Worth the money spent (I'm a sucker for cute snowmen, what can I say. ) Their elementary school fundraiser sucked. The stuff was garbage, the paper was ugly. I didn't bother those years.

My son is in middle school this year so I'm waiting to see what they have.

I tried telling the PTO at the elementary school to sell Yankee Candles and they didn't want to listen to me. So fine, whatever. They also sold light bulbs and tubs of cookie dough. My daughter still goes there.

My major dislike of the gift paper includes the fact there wasn't a single thing for Hanukkah - just Christmas.

Really? The ones I've bought from all have had Hanukkah options. And Kwanzaa, too. Even when they were offered by the Catholic school.
