He loves to read but when I look in the store nothing fits.
I like Treasure Island but is that too old?
Thank you!

Series of unfortunate events, Chet gecko (a series), spider wick series. Those were some my son loved a few years ago at 10. If he's a strong reader maybe Artemis fowl.

What does he like? My 6 year old nephew loves fantasy. He reads Harry Potter, the How to train your dragon series, and some classics that I don't remember.

Series of unfortunate events
Holes
both great suggestions and both my boys loved.
How about a subscription to a cool periodical like Nat Geo for kids or Zoo Animals? My boys loved these and it was a big deal to have something come in the mail, in their name, every month.

What's his reading level? Does he like action? Adventure? Mystery? I'm a school librarian. PM me with those answers and I'll send you a list and some links.
Also, print, or ebook?

"The Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen, really any of the books by Gary Paulsen. He has several good adventure type books. Good, clean, fun, honest books good for boys who love adventure and imagination. Call of the Wild by Jack London. Chronicles of Narnia series. The Indian in the Cupboard. Smokey the Cowhorse is an old book but a wonderful story of determination and loyalty. Iron Will is excellent. Its a true story of a boy who lost his father in his youth and saved the family farm by winning a dog sledding race - set during WWII. Stuart Little, City of Embers. (Can you tell I have a son? :-) He's 17 and gobbled up every book I could get my hands on when he was growing up-haha)

Anything by Rick Riordan
This. Ds 9 eats them up and we're waiting on a book order for two more right now. He also read quite a few of the Harry Potter books early on. I think he finished the third the summer after grade one. We took a hiatus because although his reading level is very advanced, he's still a sensitive little boy. So finding a balance of what he could read vs. what he was ready to read was tough. At 9 though he's ready to read them again.
He really likes the Ridley Pearson books. They are mysteries all set in Disney. Neat concept even if you aren't Disney parks fans or familiar with the parks.. it's just the setting.
