I met up with a small group of SIers last night for dinner. If you've never been to a get-together, or can't imagine meeting up with strangers from the internet, you might not fully understand or appreciate this.

It was medicine for my soul.

Seriously.

SIers are different, in the very best way. The positive energy emitted by even a small group is amazing. Even when talking about what brought us to SI in the first place, there's a sense that the focus is not only on surviving, but thriving, and not on the infidelity. The strength and determination of SIers comes shining through. It really does.

In contrast, I work with some people who went through the same thing as what finds us all here, only they didn't find SI or even look for something like it. Even if they're not bitter, the energy that swirls around any conversation about the subject turns negative. For me, it's an energy suck, and very draining.

There's just a huge difference in how SIers approach...life. And I had forgotten how great it is to be around that kind of energy, until I was again.

Despite staying up past my bedtime (by the time I drove home), it was so worth the drive and the time to hang out with such positive people. Thanks y'all!

That's awesome. I don't fear the invisible people from the internets, as some of my BFFs have been found that way. I've never made it to a meet up (I blame Jrazz), but sounds awesome. I'm glad it was so rewarding.

Someday I'll have to go out on a limb and meet some SIers IRL.

G2Gs are posted in the Fun and Games Forum.

Just keep a lookout, they happen pretty regularly in different areas.

I so want to go to one of the get togethers but I don't know of any out where I live. I have heard from others that they are a blast and a half.

Ticked, you can always jump in feet first and host one yourself. The first one H and I attended, we hosted - thanks to our own resident Erma Bombeck AKA Threnody.

Short version - she was going to be in town for the Erma Bombeck Writers Workshop and I suggested we get together. She agreed and next thing I knew she'd put the word out in F&G. Since we live here, we became the de facto hosts.

We had SIers from 4 states come in and we had a blast. It was nothing fancy, just complete strangers who are family shooting the breeze.

Oh and BS, WS or MH, doesn't matter. Labels don't get used.

I have heard this is true, and MangledHeart is always welcome at the events.

I am not sure what actually constitutes a g2g numbers wise, but I have met one local member for coffee when she first joined, and met Ser, Cant, and Jrjr when they were in town. All great people I am fortunate to have met. After a few years I even changed my location to include the city just in case. I know I have missed a few people by trying to be too anonymous.

I think we need to either come up with a different abbreviation for madhatter or just start calling MangledHeart Oz, the Great and Powerful... just to avoid confusion on that score...

Oh, and I'd love to meet Oz and DS...
