Something that is really bothering me is that I have a a couple of different counselors tell me that they think stbx might be using drugs as well. I seem to be in denial about this because he always seemed to be against it. However, since we have separated and filed for Divorce, he has added friends to his facebook. Everyone of them has a rap sheet for dealing drugs and using. His first wife was severely into hard drugs also. He always told me that he divorced her because of her drug use and cheating. Of course now I know that he was cheating on her too.
I thought that I knew him and it is so hard for me to accept that he had an entirely separate life that he hid from me. He didn't really hide his drinking or denied that he was an alcoholic. I always blamed everything on his drinking and thought he was a good honest man that drank too much.
So, my question is...do alcoholics normally hang out with drug addicts/dealers if they are not doing it themselves?

Good question. For the folks I've known, it's either hand in hand (both alcohol and drugs), or else the alcoholics only hang out with each other and have somewhat looked down on the people who use drugs (in that way, their alcoholism is insidious because they're convinced that they're better than the drug users, but they're both losing their health). Just from the people I've seen, but you could be seeing something different.
