Exhibit 1 on how to go from pretty to looking like a she-male porn ad in two years.

Awful.

Sad part is her stock just went up 100%.

Isn't it showbiz though?

I think she's actually brilliant compared to others. To me it was an act, a show and nothing else.

I don't understand all the fuss.

I thought showbiz was for people to perform for others' enjoyment. I don't care about her sexuality, but the fact that she was a really, really bad singer and dancer was pretty newsworthy during an evening dedicated to those with talent.

Picture one of the keynote speakers showing up to your college graduation, and they were drunk and illiterate, slurred through a speech and then belched in the microphone - and then the next day, instead of talking about all the people who achieved something, the only coverage was of the drunk, illiterate speaker.

I think being fussed about someone demonstrating that little respect for their profession is completely appropriate. And I think people should shame her for not apparently practicing or caring about the quality of her performance. It should have been an honor to perform in front of so many more accomplished people, but she made it a joke, and made the winners' evening about herself. I think people with 'fame' get a pass on awful behavior that normal people would be justifiably censured for. It's not bullying to let someone know when they're being rude, entitled and disrespectful.

Hank and Marie watch the VMA.

Oh, thank link was excellent!

Here is another one, commentary on the "Why is Miley 'crazy', 'trashy', etc., and Robin Thicke is not?" in a great song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=O2zbxM4EehE

ETA:

Lyrics:

We want topless women in our music videos
We want pop stars acting like they're in a porno
You know we want it and we gettin' what we ask for
But when Miley does it we say "Oh my God No!!"

Why's she acting like a ho, this is so wrong, we all object
Where did she get the idea to act like a sexual object?
I suspect she is on drugs, I think she's losing her mind
Did you see her shaking her ass on TV, singing "Blurred Lines"
Which is such a wholesome song, I can't believe she ruined it
Her slutty moves made Robin Thicke look misogynistic
What a bitch, she makes me sick, doesn't she have ethics?
How dare she try to use sex to sell pop music!

We want topless women in our music videos
We want pop stars acting like they're in a porno
We want it and we always get what we ask for
But when Miley does it we say "Oh my God No!!"

The line's no longer blurred you crossed it and upset the nation
Don't get us wrong, we're super cool with objectification
But it's hard to watch you play that part, we've know you for too long
So please go back to singing the Hannah Montana theme song
And we'll go back to watching others do exactly what you did
And we won't be offended cause we can not picture them as kids
And we'll be cool with videos with women prancing around naked
And it won't be sexist as long as the song's a number 1 hit

We want topless women in our music videos
We want pop stars acting like they're in a porno
We want it and we gettin' what we ask for
But when Miley does it we say "Oh my God No!!"

Miley, oh Miley.
You're upsetting everybody
By being so slutty,
Unlike all the other pop stars....

Late to party, but I think Miley acted like a pig. I think she was so over the top in wanting everyone to know she's grown up that she went too far.

We get it, we got it with tats and crazy haircut. I was not impressed. She seems like a talentless joke now.

I just read a headline on Yahoo that said something about Miley Cyrus, a see-through dress and no underwear. Didn't read the article, just saw it as I was getting to SI.

I couldn't help but think, if everyone stopped paying attention and writing about her, wouldn't she just stop?

(Not here, I mean the internet, tabloids, tv, etc.)

It's so true to formula it's maddening. They (and there have been so many of them) need to shed their Disney image to get the fanbase and longevity they want. So they whip out the unbridled sex kitten routine, shock the crap out of everyone and get fans in the kids who are just old enough to want to go against everything their parents tell them. It's nauseating, but marketable and it happens over and over.

As for the performance itself.. what struck me the most was she can't sing .. not live anyway. She sounded awful. So we were left with gyrating, butt shaking, and teddy bears. Whoop-dee-doo Miley. It would suck to have your only marketable talent be that.
Multi Million Dollar paydays aside, I imagine even within the entertainment community, there would be disdain from ACTUAL musicians for those who need a freakshow and gratuitous sex to get any attention at all. She and others like her have to know they have no real skill.
It's the Paris Hilton effect. If all else fails, shock the shit out of people to be relevant.

It makes me sad. Honestly, Miley didn't come up with that routine. She has handlers, agents, make-up artists, choreographers, a whole team that handles the brand "Miley."

So when they come up with the idea of her dancing around half naked with her tongue out and huge teddy bears prancing around the stage, she does it, because she wants to be a star and make lots of money. She is addicted to the fame, the power of celebrity, and trying to find love and attention in whatever way she is being raised to find it.

It is an empty life, full of pretty things and screaming fans that will pay money for a napkin you spit in, but not much in the way of true or deep love, appreciation, and real emotions/feelings.

And the fact that she is obviously performing other people's work and ideas makes the entire performance empty and lacking. I don't see a pretty future ahead for her unless someone intervenes for her and helps to ground her to real life.
