As some of you know, I have been searching for a new job for a couple of months now. I have sent my resume to many places and have gone on one interview.

I recently requested my transcripts from the two colleges I went to before my BH and I got married. I have an associates degree in early childhood education and (I thought) a bachelors degree in psychology. Although it isnt the Masters degree I always thought I would get, I thought it was a decent educational background to help me get a new job.

So today as I was looking at my transcripts I realized that I had no graduation date or degree listed from the school where I received my bachelors degree. After looking at the website I discovered that I am missing 7 credits and dont really have a degree.

I am absolutelty panicking now for so many reasons....I have already emailed the college and will be speaking to them on Monday, but in the meantime I have so many thoughts running through my mind...all the hard work and time I spent in school means nothing now. I feel like I wasted all that time. One of the few things I was proud of for accomplishing has been a lie, and I had no clue!!! How does that even happen??

So, all that aside I am also panicking because what this means for my current job search. I am hoping the issue will be a few overlooked credits and will be easily fixed, but if not, I will have to finish the degree.

That means my job search has been destroyed....there is very little I am qualified to do without my degree...if I dont get a new job then how am I going to get away from AP and his happy little (now expecting) family?

I realize I could leave there and move on to another preschool, which would solve the issue with the AP, but that doesnt help me with my plan of making more money so I can get on my feet, out of my parents, and into a place of my own for my daughter and I, since my BH is living in limbo land.

I feel like I had finally been making some progress on fixing myself and fixing my life. I had a plan for what I was going to do for myself and my daughter if my BH decides not to R, and I felt like I was finally getting on track. And now all that has come crashing down because of one stupid little piece of paper!!!

Did you go through a graduation ceremony at your college? Maybe they made a mistake. The only time I ever requested a transcript, they had my graduation date wrong by like 20 years.

In any case, try to let go of the outcome. This doesn't seem like the end of the world to me; do most employers even request transcripts? Not that you should lie, but you did *think* you had a degree. If the employers don't ask for transcripts, you can quickly knock out those last couple classes online and make it official.

In what industry are you seeking work?

Really? What changed? Someone snuck in and managed to steal some of your brain overnight? The only REAL thing that has happened is that there has been an error made somewhere. Might be at the school and there's a snafu, might be that you are short a few hours. Both situations can be remedied.

Calm down, YOU haven't changed 1 iota. This is fixable.

Twenty,
I did walk at graduation, and was told by my advisor I had completed all the courses I needed to. I emailed the school and my old advisor today and will be calling Monday.

I am trying to get a job in human services/social services. Entry level positions require a bachelor's.

5454real,
The sad truth is that especially for most jobs in educational institutions, it doesn't matter how smart, experienced, or otherwise qualified you are. If you don't have the credential, you cannot get the job. For instance, our entry level jobs in a student support office at a university require a masters degree. We've hired some really good folks who were almost finished with the degree, with the expectation that they would be done by the start date. If they didn't have degree in hand at that time, they lost the job.

Alyssamd24, checking with your advisor is a good idea. You may also need to work with the registrar. If you have trouble getting things resolved, go to the dean of the college. Hoping that this is bureaucratic glitch. Did you have credits from more than one school? May be a problem with transfer credits showing up in the right place. PM me if you can't get this resolved -- I may be able to give you some suggestions.

Stronger,
I did...I transferred from my first school after getting my associates...So I finished (or so I thought) the program in 2 1/2 years rather than 4

Another possibility is that the class number has changed and you aren't getting the proper.credit now. I dont know how long ago you finished your classes, but when I met with my advisor last week I was told I needed a higher level math and had to take the placement test. When he read over my class list he saw honors calculus but not the class.number he was familiar with. Since I had an obselete class.number, the new computer program didnt give me the proper credit.

I hope you can get this all straightened out quickly.

PS my associates is in early childhood education and I am going back for my bachelors in psychology.

I thought I wasn't going to get my degree for a while but it turned out it was a mistake. I just had to get the counselor from my community college to fill out a form that basically showed that I had completed all the necessary credits to transfer to a University. It was because credit requirements had changed. The problem was with the science requirements. What had previously required only one class, now requires 2 classes, but luckily it did not apply retroactively. I now have my Poli Sci snuggled next to my H's Math degree :)

Colleges make mistakes, a lot. The same University fudged up my cousins degree, she ended up having to pay to get her degree from them. I don't know her situation she just said she had to pay a couple of hundred???
