IDK

My parents had agreed on a name. I was to be Laura Lee. The entire 9 months...that was it.

I was born. My mom said my dad walked in and announced my name would be XXXXX XXXXXX (ie NOT Laura Lee).

My mom has no clue where this name came from because it was NEVER discussed. She said for all she knows, I could be named after some random hooker he saw during my birth.

Nice, huh?

I think having an unusual name growing up influenced naming dd a unique first name an an "old" middle name as tribute to my maternal grandmother (no, not "Spatula Rebecca").
The opposite is true for me. Growing up with an unusual name prompted me to give my kids names that were beautiful, but not so far out of "normal" range.

I was always skeptical as this information comes from my grandmother, but after reading so many replies here, Iím starting to think it was true... joining the ranks of named after a soap opera character. Mine was a prime-time villainess

I was supposed to be a "Sarah", but my dad decided that he wanted to call me "Nikki". So that left my mother with few options. Either "Nicole" or "Monica". She chose "Nicole".

I have never been called "Nicole" in my life.

I think I've told my story before...

My parents could not agree on a name (I was the first born). My father wanted Ellen--a nice, normal name. My mother wanted...Devota OMG; if she had named me that, I would have had to kill her. Since they could not agree, my father got a baby book, opened it randomly, stuck his finger in and came up with my name. It was unusual back in the mid-50's--only one famous actress had the name. For a while in the 80s & 90s, every other baby girl was given my name, as evidenced by the fact that my own DIL has the same name.

ETA: I'm also thankful that I was not named after my grandmothers--one was Myrtle and the other Matilda.

OMG, they named you Bobby Orr?

Nice try Tred, but think female and her last name is a very common middle name for girls.

I'm named for a Queen!

little t/j

A baby was being baptised and the old priest was getting fed up with all these new fangled names he couldn't pronounce. He leaned over to the father and asked the baby girls's name hoping for a saints name. The father whispered it into his ear. The old priest raised his eyebrows a little then cupped his hand and dipped into the holy water font and proceeded to pour water over the baby's head. He cleared his thoat and said loudly 'I baptise this baby Spindonna'!!! What the father had actually said was 'I'ts pinned on her'
end of t/j

I was named for a nurse who helped my shipwrecked dad recover from double pneumonia. Also, I have no middle name because my dad said that it was just after WWII and names, like everything else, were still rationed. I hate my name and changed it at the first opportunity.

Age: 64..ummmmmmm, no...............65....no...oh, hell born in 1947. You figure it out!

I have no idea. All I know is my father came up with my name AND the spelling.

I have no problem with my name except the spelling. Even now people can't say it and it's not all that odd a name! Where there should have been an E my father replaced with an I...

Of course I did the same thing to my dd. where her name should have ended with a Y I put an I.

Our DS is named after wh but to prevent the Jr. From having to be put at the end we added a Y. Which is what everyone calls wh anyways.

My middle name is my mothers name. Is a beautiful name, just like my mom

Edited because I always have issues with typing dd and DS

Our son is named after wh. Not out daughter

Well, I was supposed to be a boy and was going to be named David (dull to me) but surprise I was a girl and they had no names picked out. My mom ended up naming me after her biological father (a raging alcoholic who died when she was a little girl leaving her orphaned) just to piss off her adoptive family (her biological mother's brother and SIL).

My name is an Irish surname that was only used for boys until the late sixties. I've never met a woman older than me with the same name. Was not very popular until a 70s TV show made the name popular. Now there are tons of these women in their 30s walking around with my MGF's name!

I also will only name my pets good scotch-Irish names after my heritage.

I was named after a soap opera character who was on "As the World Turns" for it's entire run. And apparently a lot of mom's in the 60's did the same because there were always a ton of them in my classes.

I was born the day after Christmas, so my middle name is Carol, which was also my older cousin's middle name and my mom liked it.

My H's middle name is the same as his favorite uncle's middle name.

Our daughter's first name was named after a soap opera character too. Her middle name was after my favorite aunt. (Ironically this aunt's daughter was the one who's middle name my mom used for me...Carol).

My son's first name was mostly because I love the name but also as a kind of tribute to Grandma on my maternal side and my Grandpa on my fraternal side...they both went by the nickname for my son's full name and neither of their names were even similar(think androgynous (sp?) character from a skit from Saturday Night Live back in the 80's...nobody knew if this character was a boy or girl. (and that is why I insist on him being called by his full name...not the nickname... )

My mom wanted to name me Heather.

Growing up my mom told me I was named after a friend of my parents. I later found out that "friend" was my dad's girlfriend. Apparently both my parents had a problem with staying faithful even before they were married.

It's never bothered me. I have a very old and unusual name. It fits me so I am happy. I am definitely not a Heather.

I think...therefore, I'm single.

It is what it is.

I was named after a T V star my dad had the hots for. My mom agreed to it because it was a derivative of Jesus's mother name. Being Irish catholic, that was important to her.

I have Marie as a middling name and a saint's last name also as a middle name. I have a bunch of names.

Well, I was a MUCH wanted baby after 11 years of infertility & an ectopic pregnancy that almost killed my Mother.

My Mom had my name all picked out.. she wanted to name me after my Dad & Mom (sorta) My Dad is Alexander & my Mom is Rosemarie, I was to be Alexis Marie..

Well, I was born a month premature & things were touch & go for a little while & my Dad insisted I be named after my grandmother (my MOMS mom BTW) which I was.. it's the most plain old fashioned name there is & I hate..

FWIW.. My mom did get her Alexis Marie as it is my oldest nieces name.

I know my mom wanted to name me "Deidre" or "Aubrey" but I think that was kind of "out there" for 1961 so she went with Dianne (with two "n's which was not popular at the time and she thought she was being creative). I don't where she came up with it, but I've always liked my name.

My name would have been "Charity" if my brother had been a girl, because my older sister is named Faith. I mean, really, "Faith, Hope, and Charity"? So, instead she named me after a character from "Gone With the Wind".
