I'm looking into purchasing a decent quality blender, mainly for smoothies. Does anyone have any recommendations?

The cheap $25 ones don't seem to last for me and seem to have trouble with ice and frozen fruit.

I'm willing to spend up to about $150.

I use a magic bullet for smoothies, if that's what you're using ice and/or frozen fruit for. I've had mine three years now and it's going strong.

ETA: I have a cousin who is getting married this fall, and works at Bed Bath and Beyond; she mentioned at her shower that their best selling, highest quality blender is the Ninja line.

One word - Ninja.
It has six blades and that thing cuts through ice like its warm cheese.

I use mine nearly daily and it hasn't slowed down at all.

Vitamix. Worth every penny.

I'm old-school I guess: we have a KitchenAid and it's been a workhorse. We are frozen drink fans: daiquiris, margaritas...this thing is a beast, chews up ice like its nothing.

Another vote for the Ninja!

We have found as a blender, esp. for smoothies, it works GREAT!

They advertised it (at least when we got it a couple of years ago) as being able to do all your chopping & that you could chop vegetables (going from just chopped all the way down to finely diced).

We found that really, unless you want either very finely chopped or pretty much liquified, we need to use something else.

But I'd had several blenders and a smoothie maker before the Ninja, and the only one that handled ice and making smoothies well was the actual smoothie maker - but it was difficult to clean, and we have too small of a kitchen to have a device that is dedicated only to smoothies!

Ninja. Ninja. Ninja.
We got ours on sale so I think it was 40 something and it is AWESOME. We use it all the time, can crush ice in it, and have never had a single problem. It comes apart and cleans easily as well. I am very happy with it.

I love my Magic Bullet too; since I'm alone, it's all I need.

However, if I had a family, I'd definitely look into the Ninja.

I just read an article about blenders. It ranked the Vitamix and the Ninja equally good. However, the Ninja is significantly cheaper, so that's the one I'd go for.

Ninjas are known for their ability to hide so you'll have to keep it on lock down when you're not using it.

I have an Oster. I believe I paid $40 for it.

It makes fine smoothies.
