My beloved 24 y/o daughter steals my stuff. all. the. time. from my clothes iron to my flat iron to my shoes that her dog chews to my nail polish remover. She then never returns them. Stole my best eyebrow tweezers this week. To take a tick off her dog. Told her I needed them back. got nothing from her. Finally get them back and I say "dang it, this is going to lose me my spot on the 'I found Sasquatch show'" I told her that we had had a hot Brigadier General in the clinic the day before and if I had done my eyebrows he might have asked me out.... She responds...."I doubt it Mama. Maybe you should look into a push-up bra" This. This is why you should eat your children like other species do......

Or maybe just push them out of the nest...

Yeah, I know. But she is going back to school and is working three jobs so I have to support her in that. Plus, I like not being alone in the house....her stealing is the only problem I have with her.

Yeah; I get it. DS completely trashed his room (I never went in there ) but he was such a good person and such great company, I didn't care. He's worked since he was 10. He was his own person. So, I do get it.

(And I moved out before he did, so the X was stuck fixing up the room )

Same here, bras gone, lotions etc. DD is 15.

I keep telling her to just ask me or tell me what she needs. But somehow it does not get through.

Trying again next week when she is back...

When my DD is home from school she brings her much more extensive wardrobe than I have home with her, so it opens up a whole new world for me!

It's fun, we share! And I like her clothes a lot more than she likes mine so it totally works for me.

1. I have an extra bottle of ketchup you can have when you decide to lite up that grill, lol

2. I agree with borrowing her stuff...or kicking birdie out of the nest

3. My dd is only 7 but now Im thinking maybe its good I dont lose weight. At least she wont be able to fit into my clothes. Good luck for her with the tweezers: im constantly losing them

I think the stealing happens at every age.. my 15YO is constantly taking my stuff & then claiming it for herself. She is ALL girly girl ( who can hit a mean lay up) & I bought the new spray on lotion.. she went ga ga.. over it... "let me try it" has now turned in to me having to go into her room to get MY lotion.

Fortunately for me, I'm short & overweight & she's 5'9" 130lbs so she doesn't steal my clothes but make up & jewelry.. oh yes!! I used to have a caboodle (remember those) full of make up (I'm a cosmetologist & LOVE the make up aspect of it) but since she's gotten older I now have one small (& I mean SMALL) drawer in the cabinet in the bathroom.. DD keeps taking all of my stuff! Her reasoning "You hardly use it!"

"Sorry" works when a mistake is made, but not when trust is broken. So in life, make mistakes, but never break trust. Because forgiving is easy, but forgetting & trusting again is sometimes impossible

so, from all your replies, it would seem to just be a girl thing, not evil motives or bad boundaries. Philly, my daughter is a size 2 and I'm a size 6, so no worries on the clothes either...but shoes! Not got one dress pair left that survived the beagle puppy. Luckily she stopped chewing (the beagle, not the dd..) and Sad, she is great company other than the occasional uproar her tweezer-stealing ways cause. She just left for work at her main job with a hug and "luv u mama". Stealing her stuff doesnt work, because she doesn't even know what she has in that messy room or assumed the beagle ate it. latest disaster- a tube of aveeno hand lotion beagle chewed a hole in then proceeded to lotion herself and the carpet. she sure smells good though....

We have three daughters. All moved on now. At the time it bothered me that they took my stuff...now I just miss them and wish they were here to do that. :( empty nest feels pretty lonely many days. Enjoy it.

My DS#1 lives here part of the time. Regularly steals my leftover restaurant meals. UNLESS I mark them with a large "NO!" Which makes for interesting conversation in the teachers' lunchroom...

But seriously, I think I'd but a strong keylock on my door. It would keep the peace. You are entitled to your stuff, and shouldn't have to fight about it. A lock would set a clear and real boundary...

this has never happened to me, although my DDs are a different size than me, especially in the shoe department, and I wear cheaper makeup.
HOWEVER, I could do without the drama that still seems to permeate their lives, even at age 24! Seriously, if you don't have a boyfriend at that age it's a good thing, not a bad thing...!
