I read the first one Friday night(yes, all in one sitting), and am halfway through the second one. I know nothing about any Twilight stuff - zilch, so there was no connection for me.

I thought I'd be disappointed in the writing, but I wasn't. Yes, some of it could have been better, but it wasn't horrible to me.

I like Ana. Totally. Personally I could totally relate to a lot of what she was feeling/thinking. The only part I DIDN'T like is that Grey seems too weak to me. Much of what was in the contract and talked about never came to pass, so the disappointing part for me is that she never really is a submissive to him

I am halfway through book two, so maybe that changes... but IDK, he is just getting weaker, IMO...

Yes. This is a book about a guy getting topped from below into realizing he just wants a nice vanilla relationship. She reforms the billionaire rake and turns him on to vanilla monogamy. I personally like vanilla monogamy, but I can see how someone might feel this series is a bait and switch. Hahaha, I said switch.

It nagged him, in particular, that none of the girls he’d known so far had given him a sense of unalloyed triumph.

Damn, so like I thought - it's not going to get better for me, is it He's getting too "weak" too vanilla already.

I still have about 40 pages of the third book to read. It's been a few weeks, been too busy to finish it!!! I'll get there. The second one was my favorite I think....

Tried to read it but the writing was so bad and the characters so two dimensional it kept kicking my mind out of the story. It reads like an internet self-publish - not even the good-bad writing of a Harlequin romance.

I like a good sexy book, but I have to be able to let my mind follow along with the images - the writing was so bad that just couldn't happen. I'm kind of sad about it, too, since I miss the sex books of old and would love to get into a new one.

I'm with you Circ. Got to page 25 and that was a struggle. Can't stand the characters and don't relate to them at all. I agree 2 dimensional and boring. Didn't even get to the sex stuff and I give up.

Haven't read the previous posts, but here's my take.

I tried... I really did. But the writing was just terrible. And the characters were so bland.

There was just too much:
Ana biting her lip. Christian telling her to stop biting her lip. HOLY CRAP! HOLY SHIT! On every other page.

And really - a college student going into publishing who doesn't have her own computer, who refers to checking email as "opening up the email program"... This is just out of touch.

I'm really letdown!

Also, I heard on the radio this morining that the author is planning on writing the same series from Christian's point of view

A previous poster mentioned the Sleeping Beauty trilogy... I read those about 7 years ago. Much hotter, much better writing, in my opinion. I might go back and revisit them now that I think about it...

SSM, I've been there/done that re the D/s thing. Believe it or not, I was the s. LOL

My thoughts on the book are that BDSM is presented as something he needs because he's broken. And one day he just loves her enough that voila! he no longer needs it.

ehhhhh, what about safety and trust and two adults making a decision to particpate in BDSM together, whether on a trial basis or as a something more frequent?

I've read all three of the books. Grey was F'd up royally (as he says, 50 shades of it, right?). IMO, few good/qualified Doms are that F'd up. And if they are, they don't magically heal because of the love of a good person.

If all the F'd up people in the world magically healed through the love of a good person, we wouldn't need SI, right?

By the way, I would and have, by a lake. I highly recommend it. :)

I really thought the most jarring thing was how 50 years old she seemed. Her voice was the *worst*. Jesus, just make her Miss Havisham, if you insist she must be a virgin. It's hard enough for a first person narrator to not make you nuts, but she is particularly bad. Or hey, she could've set it in the 80s. It really read like an early 90s Jayne Anne Krentz with bondage, to me.

I liked the first book and read the other two but found it became repetitive. I didn't mind it but it really wasn't anything special for me.

She's supposed to be 22!

I'd much rather read about a 50-yo woman and a 30-yo billionaire than a 30-yo billionaire and a 22-yo virgin.
