Just started it. I like it, but I must say, I thought I'd be "hooked" a few pages in, and I'm not.

I haven't seen the movie either, so I'm not sure what to expect. Anyone read the book, and does it get more exciting after the initial background information?

I agree - hang in there for a bit longer, ssm. You'll probably end up liking it.

It was okay. Not great, but okay.

I bought the book a few days before I began to find out about my H's A. I totally forgot about it. I should start reading it now. I've never seen the movie either, but books are always better than movies!

I liked it and some parts literally made me laugh out loud!
Has anyone seen the movie? Is it any good? Usually movies disappoint me after I've read the book

I agree that books are better then movies; I read ALOT! However, I struggled through this entire book - I was very disappointed after all the raves it received. Kinda "eh" for me.

Have you read Water For Elephants? Thats one of my most recent favs.

I really liked the book. I think everyone I know loved or hated it. The movie was good too.

I tried to read it. It currently is residing on a shelf in my bedroom.

I could not get past the fact that she called the little girl Baby Girl. That was my WH's nickname for the woman he picked up on the internet. She in turn called him Daddy

Ruined the book for me.

I loved The Help. I didn't see the movie either because I hate movies but the book was great. I didn't care that much about the race relations issues but there are strong themes of friendship, lonliness, ethics and isolation which I thought the author illustrated well.

I really want to try to get through the book first, and maybe not see the movie at all.

I did read Water for Elephants. I LOVED it. LOVED it. Haven't seen the movie though.

This was also a "meh" for me. I tried to like it, and made it about halfway and put it down and forgot about it. The same with Water for Elephants.
There was nothing bad about them.. I just couldn't get into them.

Cast another vote for "meh." I got the sample for Kindle, and liked it well enough to buy it---but ended up setting it aside after a few chapters.

I will try it again--but it really hasn't done much for me.

I am going to watch Water for Elephants tonight. I hope I like it. I LOVED the book, so I hope the movie isn't a let-down after that.

I loved Water for Elephants! I had read two of her other books previously, which I would also recommend: Riding Lessons (warning--infidelity) and Flying Changes. Both really good.

I haven't seen the movie yet--my youngest is coming home, so maybe we'll watch it together (I think she's already seen it).

Yeah Cat - I loved it too. Totally. I just hope I'm not disappointed by the movie now, since the book was so good.

I'm still muddling through The Help, but I gotta be honest, most evenings I opt for Big Bang Theory instead.

I agree that it gets better. It took me a while to get the "flow" but once I was in it was good.

It gets more interesting after the initial background, to answer your question.

I'm in the group who loved Water for Elephants. I couldn't put it down. The movie was good, but couldn't be as detailed of course, as the book.
