Hi crossroads,

welcome -

MFP is My Fitness Pal, an online programme for computer, tablet or smart phone that helps you track your calorie and nutrition intake via a linked database of thousands of records of foodstuffs, brands etc.

It is surprising once you start tracking calories how many are lurking in 'just that little bit of something'!

Jemima, I just ate 3 chocolate biscuits (broken biscuits bag kept in house for hungry after school kids), partly because I felt safe - and hungry! - from a long cycle and walk today. But thin end of a wedge. Think I may have to enlist the kids and ask we can keep the house biscuit-free for a while.

Maybe a long walk in the Hindu Kush would do it?

I am aiming to lose 10 to 15 pounds by May, just in time for summer clothes. I am 5'6 and as of Feb 1 was at 153. I started hitting it hard Feb 1st and have dropped 5 pounds so far (at 148) and am happy with this. I try to stay under 1400 calories a day and I intensely increased my exercise. I used to only run and do weight workouts, but I added spinning classes and body pump which both are AWESOME! It has given me new motivation that I really needed.. and I am seeing the results. So far so good, I just need to stay motivated, thats the hard part!

Thanks, Edie. I'm from the UK, living in the US and I bought proper Scottish shortbread for the school fundraiser International basket (bloody expensive and hard to find) and that temptation combined with the emotional trauma sent me over the edge.

But, I had a good day today and there is nothing tempting in the house now.

I totally agree about hidden calories! I had a bite size tiny milky way and those are 40 calories on MFP. Not the British fun size, just one tiny bite.

MFP and this thread stopped me just giving up today!

I sneaked onto the scale this morning and the number is still going down. Will wait for my official Sunday weigh-in before posting the numbers, though.

in the meantime.... I've been making some great salads for lunch. I'm using a baby spinach/baby leaf lettuce blend as my base, then adding turkey, diced avocado and tomato, and feta cheese. the only thing that would make it better would be bacon.

Thanks, y'all!

I've set a pretty lofty goal. What can I say; my I-related rollercoaster ride has taken its toll.

I started my lifestyle change on 9/2/12. I joined Weight Watchers and the Y to achieve a 100 pound weight loss by 9/2/13.

Some people think I'm nuts to want to lose that much, but the truth is, that is the weight (145) I had always been most comfortable in and it's been a long time since I've seen it. I'm tall (5'8") and you could say I carry weight "well." In other words, I hide it well. You can do the math as to how many pounds of hiding I manage to pull off.

I've learned over the past five months how unhealthy I really was, given the amount of visceral fat on my frame. I don't have the best family genetics, so this is something that I'm doing not just to look better, but to be healthier in the long run. My problem area is between my chin and my knees and it is there that I put the most focus on.

I weigh in on Sunday's at WW, and as of this past Sunday, I am down 37 pounds. I had hoped to be down 50 pounds by the next weigh-in this coming Sunday (my halfway point), but am realizing that isn't going to happen with 13 pounds to go.

Unless I weigh in on one foot stark nekkid!

Thank you, football season, the holidays, my birthdayÖ

Actually, my WW counselor has explained to me that the fitness regimen I'm currently on (with the help of a trainer) is allowing for steady weight loss, but not in big numbers. I am averaging a 1.5 pound weekly loss. In other words, my body is keeping the fat to accommodate the workouts, so Iíve re-tooled my eating to provide for more protein and complex carbs on workout days.

I workout on Tuesdays, Thursdays and one of the weekend days. On Tues I do a Les Milles BodyAttack/CXWORX combo class. Itís 55 min. of high intensity cardio, resistance, yoga and stretching. The trainer focuses each class on a specific body area, but for the most part, itís core intensive. On Thurs and Sat or Sun I do 45 mins of cardio (Elliptical, Bike, Cybex Ė 15 min. each); resistance work on 7 different machines and about 30-45 mins. of mat based core work (push-ups, planks, crunches). Iím very fortunate in that Iím the only person I need to worry about, so taking 2.5 hours to go to the gym is no skin of my nose.

Another key thing Iíve learned is not to be too mindful of the scale but how your body looks and feels as well. Iím already down 2.5 sizes in clothes. I say plus the .5 because Iím in-between sizes and clothes that I bought just a month or so ago are already too big. I swear, even my feet are shrinking! Thank goodness for thrift and resale shopping while Iím doing this!

So far this is working for me, and it will be fun to check in with all of you!

Tanks!

I've missed a week of workouts due to a nasty cold. Was hoping to get to the Y last night but we had awful weather.

Hitting it back up tomorrow and over the w/end.

How about a 90 calorie fiber 1 brownie or just one regular brownie?

These were homemade brownies - the work of the devil (aka DS and his GF).

I resisted and had a lovely egg white omelet instead. Yay me!

Down 1.7 this week putting me at 273.8.

Happy with the results, but really need to get out of these 270s.

Keep up the good work gang!

That's terrific, Crumbled!

I didn't lose anything this week, but physically I can see changes. Total weightloss is 12 lbs.

I'm down 1.2 lbs this week, and officially out of the 150s. Okay, so it's just barely, but I'm taking it anyway.

Seeing all of the decimals in your numbers makes me want to get a digital scale!!! I have one of the old style ones that moves up when you step on it and you squint down a bit to see where the line might be. Hmm maybe I can purchase that for myself as a reward if I lose 7 pounds....

I gained a few pounds Valentine's day week - thanks to all of the cookies that I ate. I've lost that, but back to my usual weight... so no real loss.

SO and I have been doing really good at drinking water when we go out to eat. I still need to drink more water at home. I bought some flavoring to make water taste like something, but I don't really care for it. I went one day without having any pop. And another day with having only one can... I tried switching to coffee, but after 2 days, my stomach wasn't feeling right. Not sure if that was related or not. I should probably go back to using MFP and track my intake. I don't like my choices, do I don't want to document them... I was home alone and bored on Friday night, I had 3 cans of pop. Sigh. I need to stay busy and do things to avoid eating/drinking junk. Ugh. Maybe I should write a journal for this kind of stuff so I can refer back to it to notice patterns and things to fix.

Anyways, I love reading your posts of updates. Tips for staying on track. And motivation to keep on trying. I read this thread every few days, even though I haven't been posting. Nothing really to add.

Failure is success if we learn from it.

Back up half a pound.

I'm struggling to lose more. I really want to lose that last ten. My size 8s are starting to fit loose, and boy would it be amazing to get down to a 6.

I just don't know if I could maintain it.

I can't seem to eat right if I go out with friends.... The alcohol, the bar food, the bacon cheeseburgers, the sweet potato fries, the Froyo...l I just lose control.
