No, but I'll be interested to hear about yours, lt.

I'm not going to be happy with my weigh in tomorrow. It was an incredibly stressful and off-normal week, and cake entered my house.

I've got a heart rate monitor, but not one of the fancy chest-strap ones. Mine's one of the watch style ones. I wear it when I ride my bike, which means I haven't used it in months.

Down another 1.5 pounds this week. Total of 8.5.

I do ONE weigh in. Naked as the day I was born Not giving up my efforts for a sweater and a pair of jeans I tell ya

I've struggled since my teens with weight issues, at first in my own head.. and later real because of yo-yo dieting. There were times I recorded every morsel that went in my mouth or weighed myself 5 times a day.. or didn't eat for days. I am older and wiser and the only thing that is going to work for me is to keep it real and healthy and be kind to myself. So as cheesy as it sounds, I am feeding myself like I would feed my kids. Lovingly and without pressure. Healthy.

I am happy and it's going well. ONWARD!!!

Scale didn't budge this week, but I did work out every day, so that's good. Next week will be better.

Awesome job, Meta!!!

I feel the sameway, Boon.

Up .5 lb, which is far less awful than I anticipated, given my stress levels, lack of working out, and that dang cake. I'll take it as a victory!

Onward!

ONWARD indeed. As I have mentioned before, there are weeks in my future where the scale isn't going to budge. The first pounds melt off for me and then my body gets comfortable. Slow and steady says "Just keep swimming!". We have to get there eventually!

Next month will likely be my stall and I am going on vacation in a month and I will gain a bit I am sure. Those will be my big challenges. I never pick myself up well after a gain or a stall and this time needs to be different.

Down 1.4 this week, that's a total of 16.8 since I started watching what I eat in mid October.

that's fabulous, ama. I'm still waiting for my regular jeans to get a little loose.

and, because I have this love/hate relationship with the scale, I weighed myself again this morning. I'm down a pound since Friday's weigh-in. so I guess I did lose some weight this past week after all.

I gained a bit when I stepped on the scale this morning.

I guess I'm going to have to change up my diet more. Just adding exercise isn't enough. Maybe I'm creating muscle? I should measure myself to see how I compare to the last time I measured. I don't feel a difference in my clothes, so it's not likely that there is any change.

I need to convince myself to make a shake for dinner tonight. SO bought me a magic bullet blender for Christmas and I haven't opened it yet...

How do you guys make the changes to eat healthier? Any tips?? What motivates you to stay on track? Do you have a reward system?

little turtle - When I crave chocolate, I eat a 90 calorie fiber 1 brownie. I also have been drinking 96-128 oz of water daily.

little turtle, diet is a much a more effective way to lose weight than exercise. When I was just exercising, I actually gained weight, because all the cardio made me so hungry and I ate more to compensate. I was eating all wrong (so many carbs and sugars!)

I started tracking what I eat on My Fitness Pal, per a recommendation I got here on SI, back in October. Just writing down what I'm eating (and I put everything in) really helped me realize where my weaknesses are. Peanut butter cups during the work day come to mind.

MFP tracks a lot more than just calories. I actually like the ipad app better than the website, because it breaks down your carbs/proteins/fat % on the main page. My goal is always high protein, high fiber. I plan my meals for the whole day, aiming for ~200 calorie breakfast, ~350 calorie lunch, ~400 calorie dinner, with the knowledge that I'll snack here and there in between. Snacks are things like a quarter cup of oatmeal with raisins (I like to put the raisins in the bowl first, with the oatmeal on top, then add water, then microwave - the raisins get juicy and delicious!), 10 pretzels and a teaspoon of peanut butter, a "mini" size candy bar, greek yogurt with fruit (or the Healthy Choice frozen greek yogurt! OMG so yummy!!!) , or, like jo, I love the Fiber One cookies and brownies. Ooh! and cocoa covered almonds!

Another big (important) change for me was to actually start measuring. What I thought was a portion is usually 2-3 portions. I thought, "oh, pretzels are low cal, I can eat them" but then I'd eat a quarter of a bag. Now I count out 24 (the serving size) into a bowl, and put the bag away before I start eating. I just bought a food scale too, and that'll make it even easier to measure portions.

A lot of it for me is about portion control. I'm definitely eating more protein and fewer carbs than I used to, and less sugar, but otherwise I haven't cut anything out. I'm not doing anything unreasonable or anything that I don't think I can sustain long term. I'm just doing what I've always done, but in more reasonable portion sizes. I eat a piece of pizza and then drink two glasses of water, instead of eating half a pizza. I eat ten pretzels and a teaspoon of pb, instead of hauling the bag and jar to the couch and eating nonstop for thirty minutes while watching tv. I swapped ice cream for frozen yogurt, and I eat one scoop instead of three. At the holidays, I had a sliver of pie instead of a piece (and yes, I ate a sliver every single freaking day, and still lost weight! ).

Oops, late for the weigh-in. Down another 5 lbs, so that makes me very suspicious of reliability of original scales. Either that, or the fact that we currently temprarily don't have any heating means this freezing and shivering have some benefits.

But I don.t feel 10lbs lighter, so tink its less in reality and so am glad I have invested in new scales and can trust future losses (or gains).

Currently worrying that its all taking up too much time and headspace, but am hoping that will improve once I have got a grasp on the calorie counts of most things.

Edie, my first few weeks were like that, significant numbers but no visible difference. I think it was probably water weight. I started feeling and looking better around 12 pounds, and got my first unsolicited "have you lost weight?" yesterday (around 17).

Can anyone help me out with sweeteners?

I switched from sugar to artificial sweetener in my coffee, which is great and all except that I drink 6 cups a day
I know that can't be good to be consuming that much sucralose. Is any one better than another? Or do I have to just bite the bullet and start drinking coffee without any sweetener. I'm not prepared to give up my coffee just yet but I'll lose the sweeteners if I have to. (But I don't want to.. and I'm pouting )

Sorry meta, I don't know anything about sweeteners. I'm a green tea girl, no sugar or milk.

I've been lurking, admiring the progress everyone is making. I'm watching what I eat and exercising, so sooner or later I'll have to start with weigh-ins. Is there any particular day this is done, or does everyone just go on their own schedule?

Kudos to all of you for all the hard work!
